• Sweetened Condensed milk is everything. Its literally liquid crack. One taste and you are hooked for life. It’s milky, it’s thick and creamy, it’s sweet and it’s the perfect addition to a myriad of desserts.

The only drawback is that there is currently nobody making a cholov Yisroel version of it. So, in an attempt to make sure that my recipes are accessible to as many people as possible I set out to create my own sweetened condensed milk.

I made a huge batch because truthfully, this stuff is good in everything. If you are already making it, you might as well have enough left over to make truffles, salted dulce de leche, or even just add to your coffee for the best latte you will ever have in your life! I’m gonna include links to some of my recipes that use it to give you a few ideas!

  • Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

    1. 6 cups whole milk
    2. 2 & 2/3 cups sugar

    1. Place a large heavy bottomed pot over medium high heat.
    2. Add milk and sugar.
    3. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes until the sugar is completely dissolved and you begin to see steam rising from the milk.
    4. (It is important to keep stirring and watching the pot to prevent the milk from coming to a boil.)
    5. At this point, reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting or flame.
    6. Stir milk mixture every 15-20 minutes.
    7. Allow milk to slowly and gently reduce by half it’s volume.
    8. This will take around 2 hours.
    9. It will be thicker and syrupy at the end and slightly darker in color.
    10. Allow to cool and then pour into jars or Tupperware.
    11. Refrigerate until using.

Salted Coffee Chocolate Chunk Ice Cream

    1. 1cup sweetened condensed milk

    3. 1 tsp vanilla

    5. 2 cups heavy cream
    6. 1 c chocolate chunks (I used a mix of dark and milk chocolate)

    1. In a bowl mix condensed milk, coffee and vanilla.
    2. Add salt and stir.
    3. In a mixer whip up heavy cream till there are stiff peaks.
    4. Fold in one spoonful of the cream into the milk mixture.
    5. Then add the rest of the cream and gently fold it in.
    6. Layer ice cream mixture in a tupperware alternating with layers of chocolate chunks.
    7. Cover and freeze until firm.

    330g (10.5 oz) condensed milk

1/2 tsp maldon salt or any coarse salt

Fill a small pot half way with water

Place a medium sized glass bowl on top and make sure the water is not touching the bottom of the pot

(If it is, just pour a little out)

Remove bowl and turn on stove to medium low heat

Pour the condensed milk into the bowl and cover with tinfoil

Once the water begins to steam place the bowl back onto the pot

Leave there to cook for anywhere from 1-2 hours

Every 30 minutes, remove the tinfoil and whisk

you will know its done when the condensed milk has darkened and looks like…caramel!

Remove from heat and allow to cool for 15 minutes

    Stir in salt
