During the wet season it can be over 118 miles wide

The amazon river contains 1/5 of the worlds fresh water reserves

And the trees around it produce 1/3 of the earths oxygen

1/3 of all known species in the world live in the Amazon Rainforest and River.

There is no bridge to get across the Amazon River at any point (mostly because there is no need since it is surrounded by forest)

In 2007 Martin Strel swam the entire length of the Amazon River. He swam for 10 hours a day for 66 days.

Amazon River contains a fish called Pirarucu. Its a meat eating fish, can grow to be 3 meters long and has teeth on the roof of its mouth and its tongue (yuck!!!!).
